TPT Banner Gif....I did it!

My First Video!!!

Everyone knows that I'm kinda shy... Okay, that may not be the complete truth. However, I did have a problem with the idea of making a spectacle of myself in front of the entire internet world.  It was tough, it was challenging, but I finally have the courage to show the world who I am and what I do. Watch the video below for a glimpse of some science lessons I've done with my students, and who I am as a teacher.

Y'all enjoy!

State of Alabama Adopts New Science Standards

Hi Internet World

Breaking news!!! After 10 years, Alabama State Department of Education has given the approval for districts to adopt new Science books.  This new learning material will accommodate the new rigorous science standards that were adopted last year.

I’ll give you a moment to let that whole decade thing sink in. Here’s a visual to help you out.

Ten years ago (2006):

It's been ten years people! TEN YEARS!!! Ten years doesn’t seem like so long ago, but at the rapid pace that things change, the picture shows just how fast time flies.  For this reason, it is immensely important that teachers and parents keep students abreast, even if the resources don’t allow it.

As an educator, I am ecstatic that new textbooks will soon be adopted.  However, as a realist, I am also very aware that some of the material in those new books will no longer be accurate next year, or two years from now.   Another ten years will pass, I’ll still be a glowing 25 year old, and another teacher will be blogging or whatever trend is popular in 2022, and sharing her joy for new material.

What I’m trying to say is, if I never get another new textbook, I will still have the ability to create engaging lessons for my students. Teachers are quite the creators and innovators, and as long as I have the State Standards and my Bible, I’m good.

Y’all be sweet!

NASA ALSDE STEM Institute Training

Hi Internet World!

A couple of weeks ago, I was honored to work with 3rd-5th grade teachers from all over the great state of Alabama on (drumroll please...) NASA Resources and STEM Science lessons. Our presenter John Weis was phenomenal.  He kept us engaged with hands on engineering design lessons that made my colleagues and me think, laugh, ask questions,  scratch our heads, and LEARN.  He taught us exactly what we'd be doing with our students by allowing us to become students.  Here's a secret. IT WAS A BLAST!

All hands were on deck while making our Lunar Buggy

When I left the training, I was empowered by NASA, John Weis, and all the great professionals from the Alabama State Department of Education.  It's been about three weeks, and my class and I have completed two labs.  Guess what? My students have been engaged, they can discuss and explain the concepts, and they are learning to think like engineers.  I consider that a NASA ALSDE STEM Institute win.

Teachers, home schoolers, administrators, and internet world, did you know that NASA has tons of resources designed specifically for Science education for students in grades  K-12? Don't worry, Ms. Bee has you covered.  Click the link below for access to all of the great lessons NASA provides, FREE.

FREE Word Problem Task Card Center

Today, I did it! I published my first activity on Teachers Pay Teachers.  I feel so accomplished! Like many other teachers, I'm always looking for activities that will help me to reinforce the standards and keep my students engaged.  Teachers Pay Teachers allows educators to do just that.  We create material and share it (some FREE/some paid) with our peers across the world.

This week, my students were asked to write multiplication and division word problems. We will use these in our center rotation next week. My students were excited and so was I.  I created this resource and shared it (FREE) in my store.  Enjoy! I look forward to your comments and feedback.

First Post

So, I decided to start a blog so I could communicate with my students' parents, share my thoughts, vent, or maybe inspire someone else.  I feared the beginning, because I doubted if anyone would read it.  I have come to terms with the idea that since this is the big internet world, everyone may not appreciate my thoughts, but maybe one person will.  Life is too short to second-guess yourself, so I won't.  Happy reading!
